How do you prepare these raisins in gin? Any particular type of raisin? What kind of Gin? How much Gin? ETC.
I am interested in this cure for osteoarthritis and would like to know the particulars for the process –how much gin, how many raisins, and how long to soak the raisins.
Hi, I am about to incorporate gin soaked raisins into my diet. The raisains are white the gin expensive my choice. I have arthritis in my jaw (yes my Jaw)& neck.chronic pain is my life.I do take cymbalta, neurontin, darvocet, kloninpin on a daily basis so we shall see.I have nothing to lose taking 9 raisains a day but less pain .I’ll let you know how I do.
Hi Mim,
I hope that it works out for you and pray for less pain.
Using your instructions for preparation, but how do you store these afterward. In the fridge? Was wondering if they would get moldy.
They shouldn’t get moldy, but you can always use a wrap for added protection against mold.
I would like to know, if there is anyone taking this remedy that has bladder problems, as I do.. My pain is horrible due to arthritis in my spine.. I will give it a try.. I would like to know if taking 9 raisons a day will cause a bad reaction with someone whom has a bladder problem..
Anne,
You should consult your doctor about your bladder issues to determine if it is safe for you to try this remedy.
do you cover the raisins when you are soaking them? Do they need to be refrigerated until gin evaporates? How about after gin has evaporated?
You can cover them or leave them open – it is your preference. I would refrigerate them until the gin evaporates and while you are eating them as well to help preserve them longer.
Please HELP me ASAP. My husband was an alcoholic and went through rehab. He has been free for 27 years. He has had cancer and arthritis and wants very much to try this remedy (I have some soaking as we speak) but we are terribly afraid that it might ruin his abstinence. I have seen people ask this here but haven’t really seen a definitive answer. Thanks so much.
Jeanne,
In my opinion, this remedy is just not worth it for a recovering alcoholic. If you are dead set on it, I HIGHLY recommend that you see your doctor beforehand for advice and take every precaution possible. Addiction is a serious thing that should not be taken lightly. If you are terribly afraid, I think that is a good sign that you absolutely shouldn’t do this.
For Jeanne Johnson: Try soaking in apple cider instead of gin. Many people have found that cider-soaked raisins help tremendously. Honey is optional. Be sure to use the golden raisins, not the dark ones. Only the golden ones are shown to work and there are known chemical differences (golden are preserved with sulfite).
For those using gin, make sure it’s juniper-berry gin. The juniper berries contain phytochemicals that are extracted into ethanol. I recommend you soak smallish batches at room temperature rather than refrigerating. Gin IS a preservative, so you don’t need to worry over much about them “going bad”. Why room temp? Because it’s warmer. Seriously. Many chemical reactions simply won’t proceed if the temperature is too low.
I made a small batch in a tart pan….overnight all the liquid got soaked up in the raisins, so there was no liquid left. Says here wait 2 weeks until evaporated, but it’s already all gone…just a little syrupy, but not much….Should they be more of a dry consistency?
Thanks
If they are soaked up, then you are good to go. Good luck Cheryl
A book I have on natural remedies gives these directions: use a glass dish, not crystal, and spread 1 lb golden raisins then cover with gin. Cover with paper towel to keep out insects etc. Occasionally stir to evenly distribute gin. After gin is absorbed, in about 5-7 days, transfer to jar with lid. Keep closed. Do not refrigerate. Eat 9 per day.
